Bucket List An Extreme Horror Short Story Warning Some Scenes May Disturb edition by Dawn Cano Lewis Duncan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is the 1st time I have read a book by this author. This short story has me wanting to read more of her work.
This is a story of taking ultimate revenge for a serious wrong committed to the viewpoint character, the husband of the victim. It is told in a straight forward, graphic manner with nothing left out, and is very convincing. It is extreme horror, very well written, and is gripping. I read it straight through. It would have been hard to put down. I feel that all people, even pacifistic ones, get so angry at someone on occasion that they day dream of taking wicked revenge - perhaps not murderous, as in this case. In that respect, this story does what all well planned out and well written stories that have verisimilitude and a sense of genuineness do. It makes you think, reflect upon yourself, put yourself in the place of the perpetrator. That is perhaps the most disturbing aspect of the story. Yes it is graphic - and will be disturbingly so to some readers. But the most provocative part is the reflection it demanded of me the reader. What would I have done? Would I have gone so far? Was the revenge deserved? The answers for me are, no, I wouldn't have gone so far, and no, cheating does not deserve such extreme retribution. The HIV was accidental, and the wife was a victim of that too. But from the viewpoint of the husband, it did make sense and was the right thing to do. The story was a success in that it convinced me that this was exactly how things would have run their course for the two characters involved. I felt very sorry for Emilia. While she had lost interest in her husband and cheated on him impulsively, I believe she still loved him and was devastated about the disease she had passed along to him. She was a caring person and a tragic figure. Powerful story.
I liked the detail in this book. It was very well written and I couldn't put it down until I read the whole story. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is not afraid of gore! Great story!
Do not read this if you don't like graphic material. I loved it because I'm a bit twisted, but I can see where others would be shocked. Well written. It seems to be that short stories stick with you a bit more so than full length books. This one really stuck with me.
The warning was correct. "Some scenes may disturb". Without doubt! Good, if not seriously sleep depriving, wishing it was a little longer, a bit more "fleshed out" so to speak. (No pun intended) I'll be looking for more of your short stories Dawn and good luck with your future writing.
As a reader, I signed on for this, but it is not for everybody. If you like truly horrific storytelling, tense scenes and graphic violence, JACKPOT!
You will read it in one sitting, however, don't read it at bedtime.
I gave it 5 stars because it hits on all levels of fear and gore.
Dawn Cano surely deserves some praise among gorehounds as long as this page-turner delivers a good load of twisted gutwrenching fun. The plot is offensive as well as smart and realistic. It keeps you reading until the finale all the way. The writing is clever and I find it pretty talentes in its way.
Worth buying, reading and adding to your sick book collection at all costs!
